I get that question all the time from clients when I share with them that I’ll be dry cutting their hair. My answer is always YES! I explain to them there is “good, better and best” when it comes to doing anything. Not to say cutting hair wet isn’t good , we do it every day very successfully and our clients love it, but dry cutting takes your haircut to the next level.
CONSIDERATION #1
Cutting hair wet is a guess, an educated guess but nonetheless a guess. When you cut hair wet you can’t see texture, shape or true color. I find it particularly difficult to see exactly where highlights will fall. In reality, hair changes sometimes dramatically, when dry. Keeping into consideration the density and any damage to the hair, dry cutting allows you to see it all.
CONSIDERATION #2
What I find works best is to first shampoo and condition the hair. Blow dry the hair as straight as possible, using a flat-iron if necessary , making sure waves , growth patterns and the natural fall of the hair is considered so the cut can beexecuted perfectly. Why straight?We all know that if a haircut looks amazing straight, it will look good any way you style it. When hair is worn straight there are no hiding mistakes or mishaps.
Even someone with curly hair, can and should use the dry cutting method. Curly hair, depending on the curl and texture can also be cut with a combination of wet and dry cutting. Cutting curly hair dry allows the stylist the ability to see the length in realistic terms so you don’t walk out disappointed with another “to short haircut” and hating what you look like.
CONSIDERATION #3
Dry cutting gives hair a diffused, softer, more natural look to it. It is a truly “customized, just for you and your hair texture” type of haircutting. Each hair falls “where it lives” and stays there throughout the life of the cut. Dry haircuts grow out more beautifully because of the textured ends, controlled tension while cutting and artistic freedom the stylist has being able to create the perfect visual while cutting . Dry cuts can grow much longer in length and keep their shape within the interior of the style more than wet haircuts due to cutting the hair exactly where it lives. Softer, lighter, manageable and more refined.
Dry haircutting delivers the best possible version of a haircut, sometimes used alone or in combination with wet cutting, if you’ve never experienced dry haircutting, open to the possibilities. Bespoke hair- redesigned……
